Abstract
God sent down the Qurʾan to be a guidance and a way for all the worlds, and laid down such rulings as would make Muslim society secure and at rest, protecting land and body from every aggression, so that individuals, families and communities might enjoy bodily, psychological and social security. The problem of this research arises from the neglect by many of the inhabitants of the city of Potiskum of the preservation of life, until failure to preserve it became a manifest phenomenon felt by individuals, families and groups, which led to a substantial gap within the society of that city. It therefore became necessary to research the problems relating to the preservation of life there and to propose solutions in the light of Sūrat al-Māʾidah, examining what its rulings establish concerning the sanctity of life and the means of protecting it.
