Abstract
The Omani heritage has been a principal and important resource to which students of the linguistic and Islamic sciences have no alternative but to return. Islamic civilization, across all its many ages, continued to take the Omani source as a point of orientation from which it did not depart in questions of religion and language, and this is owed to the singular effort begun by the celebrated linguist Ibn Durayd al-Azdī, who was a pioneer in the lexicographical writing upon which the exegetes relied heavily in bringing the meanings of the Holy Qurʾan close to people — which made the Omani heritage an indispensable spring. This paper examines Ibn Durayd's contribution to the service of the Holy Qurʾan through his lexicographical work and its reception among the exegetes.
