Abstract

The scholars of Oman contributed to the service of the Book of God across the various Qurʾanic sciences and the branches of revealed knowledge. Imam Nūr al-Dīn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥumayd al-Sālimī (d. 1332 AH) was a renewing scholar in Oman with works across the fields of revealed knowledge: creed, jurisprudence and its principles, hadith, history and the Arabic language sciences. The science of creed received a distinguished share in his writing, including the poem Anwār al-ʿUqūl, of more than three hundred verses; the poem Ghāyat al-Murād fī al-Iʿtiqād, of seventy-seven verses; and Bahjat Anwār al-ʿUqūl, his commentary on Anwār al-ʿUqūl. This study examines his exegesis of the verses of belief through these works, taking divinity and the Last Day as its case studies.
