Abstract

Human history in all its phases has known no book that received such care and attention in preservation, study, interpretation and inquiry into its sciences as the Holy Qurʾan. Among the sciences connected with it are two noble disciplines: the science of the Qurʾanic readings and the science of pause and resumption. Scholars in all the Islamic lands gave their attention to gathering the questions of these two sciences in fine compositions, among them Imam Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Saʿīd al-Muqriʾ al-ʿUmānī (d. after 500 AH), who composed several books in this field. The importance of this research lies in setting out the extent of Omani attention to these two sciences and in introducing the eminent Imam al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Saʿīd al-ʿUmānī and his contributions to them.
