Abstract

Aḥmad ibn Ḥamad ibn Sulaymān al-Khalīlī is the Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman. He delivered lectures and Friday sermons and took part in symposia and conferences within the Sultanate and abroad, recording these in Jawāhir al-Tafsīr: Anwār min Bayān al-Tanzīl, of which three volumes have so far appeared. It is among the greatest and most comprehensive commentaries on the Holy Qurʾan and among the most closely connected to present reality and contemporary requirements. The first volume of this able commentary treats principally the varieties of inimitability in the Qurʾan, and this paper reads the work for what it establishes concerning divine exposition in the reform of individual and social relations.
