Abstract

The Sultanate of Oman occupies a lofty historical position and a distinguished geographic location, and its history is filled with events proceeding from a living heritage that appears across varied subjects and fields of knowledge representing the civilizational direction of its people and their intellectual and cultural production. Poets possess a creative vision grounded in artistic resources that differ from one poet to another, for the poet is a child of his environment, affected by the events and historical circumstances through which his society passes; and literature is bound closely to history by ties evident in content and expressive device. This research seeks to reveal the content of historical-heritage discourse in Omani poetry and its significations through analytical approaches to the texts; to set out the manifestations and landmarks of that discourse in the context of Omani poetry; and to elucidate the aesthetics of the structures of such texts and their systemic devices, together with their effect on the production of meaning and on the re-reading of heritage texts. The method is descriptive and analytical, and the paper closes with findings and recommendations.
