ميناء مسقط وأثره على العلاقات التجارية في القرنين السابع عشر والثامن عشر الميلاديين
Abstract
The geographic position of Muscat played a prominent role in its commercial activity, and that role was without doubt reflected in the economic life of Oman and in its relations with the countries of Southeast Asia. The name of the port of Muscat appeared on many maritime charts confirming the city's importance as a principal port lying on the world trade routes of the period. On the spice map issued in 1649, Muscat appeared prominently as an important meeting point for trade between the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean, where spices, tea, gold, ivory, silk, Chinese porcelain and other goods were carried from India and China by boat to the region of the Arabian Gulf. Many states and trading and shipping companies sent exploratory missions to discover the coast of Muscat and learn the nature of its terrain, and in a drawing dating to the eighteenth century one artist wrote that the port of Muscat is the only port in which ships remain safe at all times.
