Abstract
God commanded us decisively to hold fast all together to His rope and forbade us absolutely from division and dissension, saying: "And hold firmly to the rope of God all together and do not become divided"; and He set for us a beacon by which to be guided at times of dispute, the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Messenger, saying: "O you who have believed, obey God and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you; and if you disagree over anything, refer it to God and the Messenger". The Messenger repeatedly warned the believers against dispute and discord, saying: "Do not return after me as disbelievers, striking the necks of one another", and: "Reviling a Muslim is transgression and fighting him is disbelief". Yet people turned from the Book of their Lord and disobeyed their Messenger, and failure and weakness became their companions. Against this background the paper sets out the civilizational indicators of the Omani Ibāḍī role in preserving the unity of the community.
