دور ميناء مدينة ظفار العمانية الاقتصادي في المحيط الهندي خلال القرنين السابع والثامن الهجريين
Abstract
The renown of the Omani region of Ẓafār is bound to the frankincense trade that flourished in the ancient world, for it was and remains the place that produces the finest kinds of frankincense, where the yields of incense are gathered and carried along the famous frankincense trade routes to the ancient world. The port of the region of Ẓafār likewise held great commercial importance during the period of Islamic ascendancy over the trade of the Indian Ocean, being one of the principal ports of export and import in the commerce of that ocean alongside the other Omani ports and the southern Yemeni ports such as Aden and al-Shiḥr — which qualified it to play a leading role, particularly during the seventh and eighth Hijri centuries, the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries CE, as this study sets out.
