Abstract
The people of Oman accepted Islam willingly, and from the time of their Islam their giving flowed forth: they contributed to the service of Islam and to struggle in its cause with pen and spear, and left a scholarly heritage and a glorious history of sacrifice. They also have distinguished contributions to the call for the unity of the community, for holding fast to the religion of God, and for renouncing division and dispersal. One aspect of these efforts towards the unity of the community may be treated through the study of one of their notable figures, a renewer who appeared in the fourteenth Hijri century: Imam Nūr al-Dīn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥumayd al-Sālimī. This paper examines his writings, his correspondence and his public positions as instruments of that unifying purpose.
