al-Tasāmuḥ wa-al-Iʻtidāl al-Dīnī fī Salṭanat ʻUmān: Qirāʼah Taḥlīlīyah
التسامح والاعتدال الديني في سلطنة عمان: قراءة تحليلية
Abstract
The title points to a reading turned towards what is positive, engaged in examining human relations in their elevation and ascent towards the better. To the extent that tolerance calls for that constructive spirit joined with the capacity to act, it also arrests us so that we may set aside the forms of extremism and hatred and put them away. As words carrying contradictory and opposed significations become distinguished from one another, the semantic field within which we move opens onto the vocabulary of accepting difference as a right guaranteed to the other, for diversity is an enrichment of human experience in its inclination towards development. This paper offers an analytical reading of religious tolerance and moderation in the Sultanate of Oman, examining the social and religious foundations upon which they rest and how they are expressed in Omani life.
