The Stages of Recording and Printing the Legal Responsa of Imam al-Sālimī: An Analytical Historical Study
Marāḥil Tadwīn wa-Ṭibāʻat Jawābāt al-Imām al-Sālimī: Dirāsah Tārīkhīyah Taḥlīlīyah

Abstract
The research posits the existence of successive stages through which the body of fatwas and responsa transmitted from Imam al-Sālimī was brought to completion: beginning with the recording of those fatwas on paper by order of Shaykh al-Sālimī; then, after his death, their arrangement; and thereafter a printing phase that passed through several stages until they reached the form in which we see them today. The research follows the historical or retrospective method in tracing these stages in their different historical phases, together with the analytical method in analysing this historical data and commenting upon it in a manner suited to its temporal frame. The study thereby offers an account of how a major body of Omani legal opinion moved from oral response to written record and finally to print.
