Abstract
This study seeks to clarify the manner in which the scholars of Oman employed the Prophetic biography in constructing their doctrinal understanding and establishing questions of Islamic creed, by analysing the patterns of argument from the events of the sīrah and the positions of the Prophet in their works of theology, jurisprudence and exegesis. It proceeds from the hypothesis that the Prophetic biography was not, in the Omani heritage, merely a historical record of the events of the Islamic mission, but constituted an original epistemic source drawn upon to root doctrinal concepts, build scholarly arguments and reinforce the values of faith and character. The importance of the research arises from the scarcity of studies that have treated the doctrinal function of the Prophetic biography in the Omani heritage as an independent subject, despite its evident presence in the works and arguments of the scholars. The research therefore seeks to reveal the most salient doctrinal questions in which the scholars of Oman relied on the Prophetic biography, to analyse their arguments in employing it, and to set out the methodological characteristics that distinguish the Omani school in this field, using an inductive method.
