Abstract
The importance of the Prophetic act lies in its being the practical application of the two revelations; indeed it is an inseparable part of the Prophetic Sunnah together with the Prophet's sayings and his tacit approvals as these are dispersed through his biography. Inquiry into how jurists have employed the significations of his acts is therefore among the most valuable questions deserving study, in order to make clear the presence of those acts in the various events of the sīrah. This is precisely what the present paper seeks to address, answering an essential question: is the Prophetic act, in all its kinds, a legally authoritative proof? What is its legislative signification? And how did Imam al-Sālimī employ it, in theory and in application, in his two works Ṭalʿat al-Shams and al-Maʿārij?
