Abstract
This study collects the reports of the Prophetic biography and their subjects as these occur in the Musnad of al-Rabīʿ ibn Ḥabīb al-Azdī al-ʿUmānī. Its importance lies in its bearing on the biography of the Prophet, the exemplar and method for those who came after him; in the fact that its source is among the oldest sources of hadith and transmission in the second century AH; and in the precedence the people of Oman hold in documenting part of the events of the Prophetic era and invoking them in their literature and records. The study is organised in four sections: the first introduces al-Rabīʿ ibn Ḥabīb and his Musnad; the second treats the subjects and events of the sīrah occurring in the Musnad; the third sets out the features and characteristics distinguishing these biographical reports; and the fourth completes the descriptive treatment.
