Abstract
This research treats the sustainability of natural resources in Al Jabal Al Akhdar across past and present together with a forward-looking view of the future, and is organised in a sequence of chapters. The first treats the geology of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, studying the history of the earth's formation across the geological eras and surveying the processes that shaped the Hajar mountain range, including Al Jabal Al Akhdar, its geological history, standing and importance. The second treats the natural history of the mountain, surveying the history of the plant cover and wildlife that have lived and still live upon it, including perennial plants, herbaceous cover, wild mammals and resident and migratory birds. The third treats the arrival of human beings on Al Jabal Al Akhdar on the basis of archaeology and the historical works that have addressed the subject. The fourth treats the natural resources of the mountain that encouraged human settlement upon it, and the fifth turns to the sustainability of those resources.
