Aspects of the Efforts of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in Learning and Memorising the Holy Qurʾan: The Present Reality and Paths of Development

Abstract
The contemporary period in the Sultanate of Oman is witnessing marked attention to learning and memorising the Holy Qurʾan, evident in the readiness of the various sections of society — young and old, male and female, educated and unlettered — to learn and memorise the Qurʾan in mosques, schools, centres and universities. Al Dakhiliyah Governorate was chosen as the focus of the study for the shining beacons it contains that draw those devoted to learning the Holy Qurʾan: the mosques and their blessed circles; the schools for teaching, memorising and reciting the Qurʾan; and the universities and the courses organised within them concerned with the Qurʾanic sciences. Such attention is nothing strange in the Omani setting, and the study sets out the present reality of these efforts and the paths open for their development.
