Abstract
This research treats the Ḥārat Ṣāliḥ School for teaching the Holy Qurʾan in the wilayat of Bahlā as a model of the traditional forms of Qurʾanic education in Oman, within the conference theme on the Omani role in teaching the Holy Qurʾan and the traditions of the Omani Qurʾanic schools. Proceeding from the first revealed command to read in the name of the Lord who created, the paper sets out the origins and organisation of this school, its teachers and its methods of instruction, the stages through which a pupil passed, and the place the school held in the life of its quarter — presenting it as a documented instance of an educational tradition whose forms are now receding and which merits recording before its living memory is lost.
