Abstract

The importance of this research arises from the importance of its subject, bound to the primary source of Islamic legislation, the Holy Qurʾan. That importance is embodied in setting out the methods of teaching the Qurʾan in Omani society and in measuring their effect within a formal educational setting. Presented within the conference theme on the Omani role in teaching the Holy Qurʾan, the study examines the effect of employing the traditional methods used for teaching the Holy Qurʾan in Omani society upon the attainment of female students in the recitation course, comparing outcomes and establishing what these inherited methods contribute that contemporary classroom practice does not.
