=520  3\$aKitāb al-Fiqh wa-al-Akhlāq is among the first of the martyred Shaykh's works produced on a typewriter, written after the independence of Algeria. It comprises three books consisting of lessons prescribed for learners. What is of value in this composition is the ethical direction that issues from employing lessons in jurisprudence to build sound moral conduct, to remedy poor conduct, or to keep from it those not yet fallen into it. Among its sources, beyond doubt, is Daʿāʾim Ibn al-Naḍr al-ʿUmānī, of which the author produced a critical edition. He was preceded by Shaykh al-Sālimī, who may be regarded as the teacher of the teachers of his generation, since his death coincided with that of Shaykh Amḥammad ibn Yūsuf Aṭfayyish, teacher of Shaykh Ḥaffār, who was in turn the teacher of Shaykh Qashshār. Al-Sālimī's Talqīn al-Ṣibyān fīmā Yalzam al-Insān is an instructional book of lesson and exercise addressed to all who seek it, quick of understanding or slow, since its expression is plain. This comparative study of the two books, and thereby of the two shaykhs, offers a model comparison between the eastern and western Ibāḍī schools.
