أخلاق العمانيين في تحبيب الإسلام للغير: الهدوء والسمت نموذجًا
Abstract
Elevated character is among the most effective means of conveying the call of Islam and endearing it to people's hearts, and Omanis have represented a distinctive civilizational model in this respect: their missionary and commercial movements beyond their own borders were marked by a refined conduct manifest in calmness and good composure, which contributed to persuading many peoples to enter Islam willingly. This paper sheds light on the ethical values Omanis displayed, and particularly the two qualities of calmness and composure, which appeared plainly in their dealings with different societies — especially on the coasts of East Africa, in the Malay world and in India — where these ethics were reflected in humility, tranquillity, self-restraint, gentleness of manner and adherence to elevated Islamic etiquette in word and deed. The research uses a descriptive-analytical method, drawing on historical sources, the accounts of Muslim travellers and local testimony from the peoples with whom Omanis interacted. It aims to offer an ethical and missionary reading of the Omani role in spreading Islam, apart from the usual geographic and commercial narrative.
