Abstract
It is in the nature of human beings to travel the earth, and so it has always been; migrations occurred for religious and worldly reasons alike, and among the religious reasons was the spread of Islam, as the early Muslims set out to open lands, among them Africa, which lay next to the Arabian Peninsula, beginning from its east. There in that east lay Tanzania and its island of Zanzibar, and other neighbouring regions, where commercial relations with Omani regions had already been established, and these relations proved a fine thread in the spreading of Islam. Omani Muslims felt through history the importance of conveying the religion to the inhabitants of these regions and exerted themselves well in that task with such practical and scholarly strength as they possessed — among the scholarly means being the translation of books and their transfer into the language of those regions. With the contact of peoples there came a drawing of words from one language into another, and this study collects, studies and traces the etymology of the words of Arabic origin in this Swahili book.
