Abstract
From the time the people of Oman entered the religion of God willingly, unity was prominent in their conduct and present in their thought — indeed it was a concern that kept them wakeful. After the Islam of Jayfar and ʿAbd, the sons of al-Julandá and kings of Oman, the two set about conveying the call to all the tribes of Oman, settled and bedouin alike; and out of concern to affirm Islamic unity within all the borders of the country, Jayfar sent his messengers to the districts of Mahrah and al-Shiḥr and their surroundings in the south, and to Dibā and what lies around and beyond it in the north to the furthest reach of Oman. All the tribes responded and became an integrated and united whole, after which the Omanis set out to spread the call beyond their own country. From the earliest days of Islam to the present, the people of Oman have been careful in the extreme for the unity of the Muslim community, as shown in the repeated appeals issuing from Oman to mend the breach among its members.
