Abstract
The Muslim community possesses many attributes affirming the unity of its ranks and the soundness of its structure, and this unity has many factors, the most important among them its enduring heritage, which was and remains an inseparable part of its scholarly renaissance in every field. The manuscript heritage stands as witness to the authenticity of its authors and their care to be open to the gates of knowledge, whatever their direction. Among the merits of the Omani intellectual heritage is its variety of opinion and the plurality of its schools and intellectual orientations, owing in the first place to the doctrinal plurality within Oman and the coexistence of its people under the canopy of Islam across centuries — a fruit of the praiseworthy difference among human beings. To the credit of Omanis, too, is their care to seek the sciences they did not find at home, and this paper reads their manuscript record as evidence of that unifying disposition.
