Omani Iftāʾ and Its Role in Islamic Unity (Fourteenth Hijri Century)
al-Iftāʼ al-ʻUmānī wa-Dawruhu fī al-Waḥdah al-Islāmīyah (al-Qarn al-Rābiʻ ʻAshar al-Hijrī)

Abstract
God's will required that creation be made various in condition, differing in ways and manifold in disposition, as indicated in the verse: "And they will not cease to differ, except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them" (Hūd: 118–119). Some of this difference is beneficial and a great asset for the community of Islam, showing plainly the breadth of the jurists' sources and the greatness of their endeavour in drawing legal rulings from their detailed evidences, and expressing truly the greatness of this law — a difference that leads to complementarity and cooperation and is a good and a great store for this community. But there is unfortunately a blameworthy kind of disagreement that develops into a chronic disease and a misfortune for the community of Islam. Against this background the study examines Omani iftāʾ in the fourteenth Hijri century and its role in sustaining Islamic unity.
