=520  3\$aThis paper treats the role of the Syrian man of letters and linguist ʿIzz al-Dīn al-Tanūkhī (1889–1966) in publishing the Omani civilizational heritage, through the correction of and commentary upon a number of older Omani works over closely spaced years at the end of his life, coinciding with the beginnings of the movement to print Omani writings. Among these were his edition of Jalāʾ al-ʿAmá, the commentary on the Mīmīyah on bloodmoney; his correction and annotation of the Dīwān of al-Sitālī; his edition, publication and presentation of Waṣf al-Maṭar wa-al-Saḥāb by Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Durayd; his correction and commentary on the Dīwān of Sulaymān ibn Sulaymān al-Nabhānī; his correction and annotation of the commentary on al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ (the Musnad of Imam al-Rabīʿ ibn Ḥabīb) by Nūr al-Dīn al-Sālimī; and ʿAyn al-Maṣāliḥ on the responsa of Shaykh ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAlī al-Khalīlī, which he gathered. The paper concentrates on Jalāʾ al-ʿAmá by Khalfān ibn Jumayyil al-Siyābī as the exemplary case, being among the oldest of the works he treated.
