Abstract
Among the highest levels of scholarly treatment in the Omani historian is the invocation of the understanding of the Prophetic biography within the matrix of historical narration, where the aspect of emulation or correspondence is present, in order to align an event whose circumstances are framed alongside what the Prophetic biography has preserved. The historian's purpose in this invocation is most likely an inclination to support the event with proof, so that minds may be set at rest regarding what some may have found obscure or paradoxical in it. Imam al-Sālimī is among the most celebrated Omani historians, and among his best-known books in this science are Tuḥfat al-Aʿyān bi-Sīrat Ahl ʿUmān and al-Ḥaqq al-Jalī fī Sīrat Shaykhinā al-Walī Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAlī. While Tuḥfat al-Aʿyān is marked by the general historical treatment of Oman, al-Ḥaqq al-Jalī is distinguished by its focus on a single Omani figure; and amid the historical events these two books contain, Imam al-Sālimī did not neglect to invoke the Prophetic biography for comparison or correspondence — a presence rare in the general historical work and abundant in the particular one.
