=520  3\$aThis study offers a foundational reading of the rulings on perfume, scent and oil in the Ibāḍī juristic compendia, connecting those rulings to rose-water production in Al Jabal Al Akhdar as a living application of a long juristic heritage. It proceeds by a historical, descriptive and analytical approach, surveying abundant material distributed through the major Omani juristic sources — in particular Qāmūs al-Sharīʿah by Jumayyil ibn Khamīs al-Saʿdī on bequests of scent and perfume; al-Muṣannaf by Abū Bakr al-Kindī on musk and oil and their purity or impurity; Bayān al-Sharʿ by Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Kindī on the distillation of oil and water; and Manhaj al-Ṭālibīn by Khamīs ibn Saʿīd al-Shaqṣī on the liability and hire of craftsmen. The study aims to establish the juristic terminology of perfume, scent and oil among the Ibāḍīs, to extract the system of rulings governing the making of perfumes and plant extracts, and to compare this with practice in the villages of Al Jabal Al Akhdar — al-ʿAyn, al-Sharījah, Sayq and al-ʿAqr — which have produced Omani rose water for centuries.
