Abstract
The absence of the Omani sanaʿ — the code of proper social conduct — among students is among the most prominent challenges facing Omani cultural identity at present, as contemporary societies face increasing challenges from the intensive use of social media, which has directly affected the value system of the young. In this context the present study analyses the impact of the Omani Sanaʿ Programme as an educational programme aimed at rooting authentic national, religious and social values among students. The study also explores the complementarity of family, school and religious guidance in supporting this programme and strengthening its effect in building the student's character. It concentrates on three basic pillars contributing to the formation of that character: the school, the family and the religious counsellor. The views of teachers, parents and religious counsellors are analysed as to the extent of the programme's effect on students' daily conduct.
